Restoration is a big and specified field in buildings. Plenty of care and attention is needed when working in restorations. Many guidelines and red tape surround listed buildings and the restoration of them. Quality workmanship is needed when doing any work on a listed building to keep it up to regulations.

Often you will try and get the classic feel of the building and then infuse it with modern technology. This enables the life cycle of a building to be longer. You will try and match material and styles. All of this must be done within the hard regulations that are given by English heritage. These must also be matched with the regulations on fire, sound and safety regulations. The regulations will often clash as well; this can lead to a red tape minefield. But with the right construction company you should be able to find a solution eventually.

With repair works as well you may have to deal with more structural problems such as strengthening and repairing brick work, Roof work etc.

The best way to gauge whether a company is competent enough to deal with these tasks is to see their portfolios. The portfolios will show what work the company has carried out before. Any problems that they faced and how they overcome them etc. They will have references on the way the building is now and how they have worked while completing the work.

Repairs may be needed for a number of reasons, whether it is down to the age of the building, or natural destruction such as fire and floods. The best way to deal with these problems is to use approved builders who are able to use tried and tested methods to deal with issues that need repairing quickly and reliably.
